This session was facilitated by Long Seh Ling. She suggested participants create and formulate their own ground rules during the sessions being conducted.
Ground rules primarily refer the articulation of a set of expected behaviours for classroom conduct. They can be set by the facilitator or created by the students themselves. Perhaps, Long just like others believes that students adhere more to ground rules they have played a role in creating more than those created by her.
Ground rules should be established at the beginning of a course. The facilitator would explain the purpose they serve. For example to ensure that participants work together toward greater understanding rather than contribute disjointed pieces. Participants discussed the rules and wrote it down on a piece of large thin paper. The paper then was parked on the wall so participants were aware of the rules and trying to obey them.
I am positive that, this is a good exposure for those who are planning to turn into the teaching profession in the future. This approach could be applied in various fields.
